“Science has also been used for destruction. We must remain vigilant”. Blade Nzimande

At the official opening of the 2025 World Conference of Science Journalists in Pretoria, the South African Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Blade Nzimande urged delegates to avoid becoming “praise singers” for science, and to remain “critical guardians of the public interest” instead. He also added: “You can do good science, but if it is not known, it is as good as dead science”.
