of all articles on health and medicine published in the Australian media between 2018 and 2022 quoted women as expert sources, according to a study conducted by the journalism researcher Kathryn Shine together with two women colleagues. They found that, “even in areas where women dominate and make up most of the workforce, men were still being overrepresented as news sources”. In fact, 75 percent of all people working in the health sector in Australia are women. This study on women in work also documented other trends, however; in 2021 and 2022, more women than men published on scientific topics.
