Cargo drones need special landing pads because their rotors pose a danger during take-off and landing. The robotics researcher Przemysław Kornatowski of EPFL has now developed a drone that automatically retracts its rotors into a safety cage at low altitudes. This has a negative effect on its aerodynamics, but makes the drone safe enough for it to land on your hand. As a result, for example, sick people could receive their drug deliveries on their balcony.
